7th Science

Students will get a meter stick and learn the parts of the meter stick. (decimeter, centimeter, millimeter) 15 min.

Students will measure different objects in the room using the meter stick. 10 min.

Students will learn how to move the decimal point and convert from one unit to another in the metric system. 15 min.

Students will start a worksheet on moving the decimal point. 5 min.

8th Science

Students will complete and then grade chapter 1 quiz. 10 min.

Review for chapter 1 test. The test will be Tuesday. 10 min.

Start chapter 2 on waves. We will read page 39 and then do the explore activity on page 39 on the overhead. 10 min.

Students will get notes 2-1 on what are waves. 15 min.

Tuesday

7th Science

Students will complete the worksheet on moving the decimal point. We will grade this in class. 20 min.

Students will take notes on volume. 10 min.

Activity – Water will be poured into a graduated cylinder and students will learn how to measure volume. 15 min.

8th Science

Students will review for chapter 1 test. 10 min.

Students will take chapter 1 test. 35 min.

Wednesday

7th Science

Students will take notes on mass and weight. 10 min.

Activity – Students will use different scales to find the weight of different objects in the classroom. 20 min.

Students will get notes on temperature. 10 min.

Students will each get a thermometer and learn how to use it. 5 min.

8th Science

I will hand back chapter 1 test and we will go over this. 10 min.

Mini Lab – pg. 43. Students will compare sounds using a ruler. 10 min.

Video – Sounds Cool – This is a video on waves. 15 min.

Students will do worksheet 2-1 on what are sounds. 10 min.

Thursday

7th Science

Students will watch the laser disc on how to use the microscope. 5 min.

Handout – This shows the parts of the microscope. Students will learn how to use the microscope by looking at different objects under the microscope. 25 min.

Lab Investigation – “The Microscope – A Tool of Scientists”. Students will work with a partner on this lab. 15 min.

8th Science

Students will complete worksheet 2-1 on waves and then grade in class. 10 min.

Students will read page 45 on amplitude. 5 min.

Students will get notes 2-2 on wave properties. 15 min.

Using math – Students will find the wavelength of a sound wave by dividing speed of the wave by the frequency. 10 min.

Students will start worksheet 2-2 on wave properties. 5 min.

Friday

7th Science

Students will complete the lab investigation on the microscope. 20 min.

Pop Quiz – Students will take a quiz over the meter stick, volume, mass, and temperature. 30 min.

8th Science

Students will complete worksheet 2-2 on wave properties and then grade in class. 10 min.

Lab – Waves on a Spring pg. 49 – In this activity, students will create transverse and compressional waves on a coiled spring and investigate some of their properties. 35 min.
